University Of Ostrava
Located in the northeastern section of the Czech Republic, the University Of Ostrava was founded in 1991 and is the newest public university in Ostrava, consisting of six faculties. The Faculty of Medicine’s roots began in 1993, with bachelor degrees offered in what was then called the Medical-Social Faculty at University of Ostrava. A master’s degree program began in 1995.
Eventually, the faculty earned its current name, The Faculty of Medicine in 2010, with 106 students being admitted that year in the General Medicine program. In addition to General Medicine, the Faculty offers a Physiotherapy degree taught in English. Currently, around 1700 students are in the program, with over 400 graduating each year.
The University of Ostrava Faculty’s degree program is a six-year Master’s degree in General Medicine. The Faculty of Medicine adheres to the EU standards for higher education and training of health care and medical professionals. Graduates are fully accredited by the Czech Ministry of Health with the necessary qualifications to practice professionally.
Students gain a complete range of knowledge and practical skills that are necessary to pursue a successful career in medicine. These practical skills are a key component of the Faculty’s teaching system from the very beginning of the students’ education at the University of Ostrava. Classes are primarily held at Ostrava’s University Hospital, the Institute of Public Health Ostrava, as well as other health care providers in Ostrava. Training is conducted in small groups so that students can experience individual care with patients. A wide range of modern teaching equipment and methods, including multimedia and simulation tools, are employed. And, live broadcasts from selected operating theaters at the Ostrava University Hospital are also implemented in classroom training.
The University of Ostrava has quickly gained a reputation of excellence, collaborating with the University L.U.de.S. Lugano-Pazzallo in Switzerland to offer a double diploma as well as enjoying a cooperation with San Raffaelle University in Rome.
