The BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) is the admissions test for applicants who wish to study medicine or dentistry courses in certain universities in the UK and other parts of the world.
The BMAT test lasts 2 hours and is a pen and paper test that is divided into three sections.
Section 1 (60 mins) covers Aptitude and Skills and tests generic skills in problem solving, understanding arguments, and data analysis and inference.
Section 2 (30 mins) covers Scientific Knowledge and tests the ability to apply scientific knowledge typically covered in school Science and Mathematics by the age of 16 (for example, GCSE in the UK and IGCSE internationally).
Section 3 (30 mins) is a writing task which tests the ability to select, develop and organise ideas, and to communicate them in writing, concisely and effectively. For more info on the format of the test, please click here.
Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing has yet to release the officially BMAT test dates for 2020. Normally, there will be two BMAT test dates – in August and November. The registration dates will differ for both test dates.
You must only take BMAT once in an admissions cycle. You are not allowed to take the BMAT on both test dates. In cases where one or more of the universities/courses you are applying to do not accept August results, you MUST take the test in November.
